Incoming Class Profile

Admission requirements for Alfred State programs vary by major. In making admission decisions, there are a number of factors taken into consideration. These factors include:

  • strength of your academic program
  • high school average
  • course and exam grades
  • standardized test scores (SAT or ACT)*
  • supplemental application information
  • College/AP/IB coursework
  • anything additional that you supply (letters of recommendation, resume, portfolio)**

*Alfred State is test optional.

**A portfolio is required for the bachelor degree in architecture only.

While entrance criteria vary by program, most students entering Alfred State will have:

  • the equivalent of a regents diploma
  • 4 years of English
  • 2 or 3 years of math (more for engineering and science-based programs)
  • 2 or 3 years of science or technology courses (dependent on program interest)

We encourage students to work with their school counselor when preparing to apply. Alfred State accepts students on a rolling basis, which means we make decisions on applications as they are completed. We do not have an application deadline. Many programs fill quickly so it is to your benefit to submit your application early. We begin sending out decisions Oct. 1.
