Beginning Monday, April 15, Alfred State College will be hosting a series of events and activities in celebration of Earth Week 2019.

Led by students, the events will focus on sustainability and increasing awareness about this topic across campus. All events are free and open to the public.

The schedule for Alfred State’s Earth Week events is as follows:

  • Monday, April 15

“Pots and Plants” from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the Student Leadership Center Park Space. Participants will be able to paint pots and plant seeds.

“Seed Bombs” from 3:30-5:30 p.m. in the Small Events Space in SLC. Seed bombs will be made from scratch. Materials will be provided.

  • Tuesday, April 16

“Pots and Plants” from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the SLC Park Space.

“Build a Birdfeeder” from 3:30-5:30 p.m. in the SLC Park Space. Participants will coat pine cones with peanut butter to adhere the birdseed to the outside. A biodegradable string will be provided.

  • Wednesday, April 17

“Pots and Plants” from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the SLC Park Space.

“Sustainable Question Wheel” from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the SLC Park Space.

Come answer some sustainability trivia and get the chance to win a special sustainability-related prize!

“Climate Choices: Deliberative Dialogue” from 3-5 p.m. in the MacKenzie Complex Commons. Join Sustainability Ambassador Sam Lieber for a conversation on how everyone can help solve climate change! Don’t know much about climate change? All information will be provided!

  • Thursday, April 18

The Sustainability Club will be hosting a water taste test from 10:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. outside of the Central Dining Hall.

Litter will be cleaned up around campus from 3:30-5:30 p.m. Participants will gather in SLC room 304.

An educational movie “Triple Divide” will be shown from 8-10 p.m. in the Robinson/Champlin Hall’s Main Lounge.

  • Friday, April 19

“Community Rocks” from noon to 2 p.m. in the SLC. Come paint rocks with sustainability-related messages that will be placed around campus.

  • Monday April 22

Trees will be planted from noon to 2 p.m. at the Alfred Montessori School.

  • Thursday, April 25

Litter will be cleaned up around campus from 3-4:30 p.m. Participants will gather in the Engineering Technology Building, room 114.
