Federal Work-Study Program

Work-Study Program

This program is a portion of Federal financial aid, designed to provide eligible students an opportunity to earn a portion of their educational expenses through campus and community service based employment in various campus departments and offices. Eligibility for this program is determined by the Federal government through the processing of the student's annual submission of the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). Students can check their eligibility for Federal Work-Study by visiting my.AlfredState.edu/finances and selecting the "Check your Work-Study Eligibility link".

Students are paid at an hourly rate and receive pay every two weeks for the hours worked. Students may view Alfred State's Job Link as early as July 1 to see what positions are available and how to apply for them. The average Federal College Work-Study plan is $2,500 annually which equates to between six and seven hours per week. A student’s work study plan cannot be used as a credit on the student's bill. Federal College Work-Study is subject to campus availability.

It is college policy that a student may not be employed more than 20 hours per week during an academic period or 29 hours per week in a summer campus position.
