The Center for Intercultural Unity strives to provide an open-minded, welcoming and safe environment for the Alfred State College campus and community. Through educational workshops/programs, professional training, advocacy and outreach, the Center for Intercultural Unity facilitates student’s self-awareness, learning and growth of different cultures, viewpoints and experiences. The center supports individuals in matters of academic, social, cultural and personal well-being, and promotes understanding and appreciation of differences, as well as similarities. The Center for Intercultural Exploration is committed to creating opportunities for students to empower and educate themselves, their peers and the community in which they live. We support and promote under-represented student organizations, including, but not limited to LGBTQ+, students of color, women, Veterans and military service, international students and faith based groups. We are also deeply invested in the prevention, awareness and eradication of sexual assault on college campuses and proactively provide programs, workshops and campaigns that aim at keeping Alfred State safe from sexual violence. We provide services for international students, both inbound and outbound, assist in navigating the VISA process for incoming international students, as well as facilitating all outbound study abroad opportunities. The Center for Intercultural Unity works closely with academic departments and student affairs offices on campus to create an empowering and enriching college experience.
Diversity can be broadly defined to include all aspects of human difference, including but not limited to, age, disability, race, ethnicity, gender, gender expression and identity, language heritage, learning style, national origin, sexual orientation, religion, socio-economic status, status as a veteran and world-view. Alfred State College does not discriminate on the basis of any of the above listed factors. Alfred State College is a member of the State University of New York, who focuses in particular on achieving equal access, meaningful academic and intellectual inclusion in curriculum, research and service, and holistic integration into the academic culture of higher education at all levels for New York State’s underrepresented populations and students who are economically disadvantaged. As a campus we recognize that our diversity makes us stronger, and strive to promote an inclusive environment for members of the Alfred State College community.
